The Paula Kubitscheck-Vogel Foundation and its goals

Paula Kubitscheck-Vogel Foundation

Since its foundation in 2006, the Paula Kubitscheck-Vogel Foundation charity has been devoted to extending the scope and range of hospice and palliative care facilities with passion and commitment. Our goal is to live with dignity – right until the end.

Our founder and our mission

Being able to say farewell in peace, dignity and security – this was the aim and vision of our founder Paula Kubitscheck-Vogel, who wanted to provide the best possible end of life care. Her mission still guides us today.

Paula Kubitscheck-Vogel was born in 1943 in Munich. She was a straightforward and clear-sighted woman, who for many decades managed the inheritance of her parents with prudence and skill. At the end of her life she used this inheritance with conviction, generosity and a clear vision to further the charitable foundation that she established. She gave the foundation her name, which to this day stands for respectful and compassionate work in the hospice and palliative care sector.

Committees and team

Paula Kubitscheck-Vogel died just a few months after the Foundation was established. Since then, the Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees and the Management Board have continued her work in the same spirit. We have a lean organisation and attach great importance to clear and unbureaucratic processes, short decision-making channels and efficient foundation administration. The Board of Directors represents the foundation legally, while the Board of Trustees has an advisory and supervisory function. Daily tasks and processes are coordinated by the Management Board and the Head Office.

»In everything we do in the interests of the Foundation, we are guided by a key principle. We are committed to carrying on the legacy of its founder and want to continue her mission with professionalism and efficiency.«

Johannes Stegmaier Chairman of the Board of Directors

Our work and motivation

We support projects and initiatives to improve hospice and palliative care, particularly in Bavaria. The commitment and idealism of the people we meet are a valuable source of inspiration for us.

In the first decade after our foundation was established, we mainly focused on providing Bavaria with specialised hospice and palliative care services. These services are intended for people at the end of their lives who require particularly extensive medical and nursing care due to their severe symptoms. They receive professional and comprehensive care in palliative care units in hospitals and hospices. Specialised Outpatient Palliative Care (SAPV) teams look after seriously ill people who wish to remain in the familiar surroundings of their homes or a nursing home until the end. Palliative medical and nursing care is supplemented by outpatient hospice work. Staff and volunteers working in the hospice services provide end of life support and counselling.

We work closely with five Bavarian hospice academies to provide further training for nursing staff and employees in hospice and palliative care facilities. We focus in particular on people who have reached the end of their lives for whom effective and holistic hospice and palliative care is not yet a matter of course, such as residents of care homes and people with mental disabilities.

Our current projects

More than forty years since the hospice movement began, Germany now has a good range of specialised hospice and palliative care structures. In recent years we have therefore been increasingly focusing on general palliative care. People approaching the end of their lives who do not require specialised care should also receive the best possible support and care in their own homes or in a nursing home. Our foundation project “Zeitintensive Betreuung – ZiB” (Time-Intensive Care) supports palliative care in nursing homes and residential facilities. Innovative projects such as day hospices or hospice and palliative care centres are also important to us. Our cooperation with Letzte Hilfe Deutschland gGmbH (Last Aid gGmbH) aims to bring information about the options for hospice and palliative care to the centre of focus in our society. Everyone should be encouraged to support people at the end of their lives in their own personal environments

Our Foundation has made a significant contribution to the expansion of hospice and palliative care facilities, particularly in Bavaria. We also support selected projects in other federal states.

Our work has made a significant contribution to initiating many measures to offer people peace, dignity and security at the end of their lives. We are proud of what we have achieved and will continue to work with commitment towards our goals.
